            SATURDAY - AUGUST 28TH

KATHERINE HENDERSON, ALANA STEIN, LAUREN ROLLER, ABBY COLLINS.

The girls went through some defensive posturing/positioning as if they were there for a purpose and they were.  The purpose being to train their way to the best.  Many people think of defensive work as something exclusive for defenders.  How wrong they are.  It was so great to see the way LAUREN, KATHERINE, ALANA, and ABBY went at it knowing that it will help them win the ball any place on the field.  It would be hard to put the spotlight on any one person as to something they did well when they all did very well on the ball handling drill with the small soccer balls.  Control with the quad and side of the foot before getting off a pass or shot was a little challenging but again the progress was there and sure to see great advancement in the days ahead seeing the way they all went at it.  A full week of soccer and yet they still came.

A number of our ever faithful students were out of town or had family events, which we believe come first, but did take the time to let us know which is truly appreciated.

        SATURDAY - AUGUST 21st

KATHERINE HENDERSON, HOLLY DERR, LAUREN ROLLER, AMANDA SMITH, SARAH WEBB, BETSY TRAINHAM, SHELBY DENNIS, ABBY SMITH!

It was good to have HOLLY back after two years away from soccer.  She will certainly be a big plus for White County which was evident in the play day game Saturday.  We first worked with HOLLY when she was in 6th grade, and last two yeas ago,  and here she is a Senior already.  It was so nice to see the way she got into the various things we were working on Saturday and doing so well with them.  KATHERINE had the moving cut back, run-over, outside of the foot push, and shoot looking so very good it was fun to see.  She was bringing down some of those hard thrown balls during the knee high trap drill with very nice velvet toes which deserves a rose.   LAUREN got into the flow of that move so the extent someone, someplace, some game, is going to get taken to the cleaners by her and end up with their end up as the ball ends up in the goal.   AMANDA continues to amuse!  She goes from 0 - 60 in three easy turns on some of these  plays and skills.  How and why I don't know but the fact is she gives it her all, is eager to get it right, and does, is a wonder to behold.  What a blessing she has to be to her coach and team.   BETSY is another that is just amazing with her progress.  Little by little to the point she did not even realize one of the things she did in her play day game, that we have worked on a number of times in training.  She executed a lift so well it was exciting to see.  She hung in there with the knee high traps with the side of the foot, and made great progress for the first session.  SARAH is an encouragement.  She is quiet, at least during training, but deep inside there has to be a keen desire to climb the hill of success since she keeps climbing.  Watching her make the progress she did with the move we worked on, as well as the roll, was exciting.  It is going to be great the day she passes some of those that get into training weak to weak as she gets into it week to week.  SHELBY had an all important confidence builder with her first high school goal in their preseason game Saturday.   She did very well with the drill we worked on, is getting better week by week with the cross-over heel kick, stayed the course with the knee high side of the foot traps as she saw first hand why these are important to learn, and getting into them with great determination the way she does everything.  Sure glad we got to see her first high school goal! :)   ABBY is quite advanced for her age and is advancing more week by week.  Her side of the foot traps are so good as she prepares herself for the ball by staying square with the play, keeping that foot lose with the give on the leg at the right moment.  It is that right moment which is so hard since the speed, angle, and height of the incoming ball are always different.  She also had the drill we worked on looking smooth in every aspect.  I can only imagine where she will be with these things by the time she reaches high school.

Thanks to Ken Craig, Chris Smith, and Kevin Henderson for their help.
